The terms governing participation in and use of the Human Values Project, an academic research initiative on AI alignment and human values in healthcare.

1. Introduction

These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your participation in and use of the Human Values Project ("HVP", "we", "our", or "us"), a research initiative focused on ensuring AI systems align with human values in medical decision-making. Please read these Terms carefully before participating in or using our research platform.

2. The project

The Human Values Project is an academic research initiative that studies and develops frameworks for ethical AI implementation in healthcare settings. Our work includes collecting and analyzing clinical decisions, developing value alignment frameworks, and conducting research on AI systems in healthcare contexts.

3. Eligibility

To participate in the research or use our platform, you must be:

  • 18 years of age or older
  • Participating in your capacity as a healthcare provider, researcher, patient, or other relevant role

4. Research participation

By participating in our research, you acknowledge that:

  • Your participation is voluntary and you can withdraw at any time
  • You will provide accurate and truthful information
  • You will maintain the confidentiality of any sensitive information shared during the research
  • You grant us the right to use your anonymized responses for research purposes

5. Data collection & use

We collect and process data in accordance with our Privacy Policy. This includes:

  • Anonymous clinical decision-making data
  • Survey responses and feedback
  • Research observations and findings
  • Website usage data

6. Intellectual property

All content, materials, and research outputs created by the Human Values Project will be released under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 International license (CC BY-SA 4.0). Research findings will be published in accordance with academic standards and made available through appropriate channels.

7. Acceptable use

When using our platform or participating in our research, you agree not to:

  • Interfere with the proper working of the platform
  • Attempt to bypass any security measures
  • Use the platform for any unlawful purpose
  • Share confidential information about patients or other research participants

8. Research publication

We reserve the right to publish research findings in academic journals, conferences, and other scholarly venues. All published data will be aggregated and anonymized in accordance with academic ethical standards.

9. Disclaimer of warranties

The platform is provided "as is" without any warranties. We make no guarantees regarding the accuracy, completeness, or reliability of research findings or platform functionality.

10. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, the Human Values Project shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or exemplary damages arising from your participation in the research or use of the platform.

11. Changes to terms

We may update these Terms as our research evolves. Significant changes will be communicated to participants, and continued participation will constitute acceptance of the modified Terms.

12. Governing law

These Terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the jurisdiction where the primary research institution is located, without regard to its conflict of law provisions.
